|
|
| Adversary: Warsaw Fleetfoots |
WON! |
| Celebration Field. |
Match Highlights: No one who has ever played at Celebration Field would expect that a defensive match would ever rule the day, but such was the case on July 29th. The Blue Laws held the home club Fleetfoots to only one ace while scoring a paltry number themselves. Final tally, Blue Laws 4, Fleetfoots 1. Of note, Blue Law Topless Henry recorded his first career strikeout. |

| Great Fourth of July Week Game. |
Match Highlights: As they say, it was deja vu all over again. Only 11 days earlier, the Blue Laws had traveled to Huntington where we took an early big lead only to give it away in the final innings to the Hill Toppers. Even the final score was an eerie shadow of the match in June, also Hill Toppers 14, Blue Laws 11. |
|

|
|
| Adversary: Warsaw Fleetfoots |
WON! |
| Part of three-club round robin between the Blue Laws, the Hoosiers and the Fleetfoots. |
Match Highlights: The Blue Laws held the lead for much of the match, but the Fleetfoots came back valiantly to tie the score at 6-6 in the top of the last frame. In the bottom of that inning, with two hands dead and no one on base for the Blue Laws, extra innings appeared inevitable. Blue Law Topless Henry had other ideas. The senior member of the squad at age 72 laced a single that turned into a double with an error at first. Mac Bannon then hit a long single to center and Topless Henry, a man among boys, scored from second base. Oxygen was administered and order was restored as the Blue Laws came out victorious. |

What an event! Twenty-eight ballists from five clubs on the field at Coveleski Stadium in South Bend! Liver Owen of the Blue Laws officiated as umpire, Sharpie Owen served as tally keeper, and Topless Henry of the Blue Laws was an OUTSTANDING on-field announcer. The match ended appropriately in a 7-7 tie before the Silver Hawks and Wizards kicked us off the turf. The event was showered with more media attention than anticipated. Mac Bannon and Naughty Waltz Firstenberger were on the WNDU morning show for a quick interview, WNDU came out to the park to shoot some taped footage which aired on the evening news, and then again on Monday morning. We distributed 1,000 fliers on vintage base ball, the rules, the terminology, and a big plug for the Huzzah Hoosier Pennant on Oct. 7-8 (a BIG thanks to the Bonneyville Millers and the Blue Laws for helping to pass out these fliers leading up to game time). During the Hawks game, the announcement board regularly flashed the vintage BB event and the teams in attendance. Add to all that perfect weather, and it was an almost perfect event--almost, that is.
The lone dark spot was a serious knee injury to Blue Laws infielder Brad "Nail" Harris when he twisted his knee rounding third. All players and cranks wish him a speedy recovery.

Match Highlights: The match was gotten under way with the gentlemanly assistance of the Fleetfoot club, agreeing to supply the behind while they were at bat. The Blue Laws were a man short because team captain Naughty Waltz Firstenberger came down with a severe case of pink eye. However, rumors quickly spread that he had been spotted in a downtown establishment well into the wee hours the night before and that there may have been a more sinister reason for his bloodshot optic organs. "Mr. Waltz" was unavailable for comment. The Blue Laws came out on top in the match by a score of 7-0. |

| At the Kosciusko County Fairgrounds, preceded by Warsaw Sesquicentennial parade march. |
Match Highlights: A fun-filled day of parades, base ball and food! What could be better? The Blue Laws came out victorious according to the score, but the game of "survival" was definitely won by the Fleetfoots who kept all players healthy. Topless Henry sustained a nasty twisted ankle running to first. He'll be placed on the 15-day disabled list and have to work his way back through the minors in order to rejoin the club for the post-season play. Yard Harris broke a toenail sprinting to first base, and moments later toppled into home plate on his face. He rang the bell, however, to the delight of the cranks in order to tally his bloody ace. Club newcomer Lucky Lucht hit a sharp ball to deep right field that found the lake for home run. Attaboy, Lucky! |
